The Shape That's Left Behind (2025)

In a climate-changed Brussels, where Christmas has become a summer affair, a grieving mother’s attempt to revive snowy memories for her son forces her to confront the intertwined loss of her husband and the disappearance of winter.

This short climate fiction film, my first fiction, is the result of a two-year artistic research project exploring how to tell a meaningful climate story that is neither utopian nor dystopian. It was created as part of my graduation project for the MA in Filmmaking (directing and writing) at LUCA School of Arts in Brussels, Belgium. I wrote, directed, and produced the film, and had the opportunity to work with a professional and specialized cast and crew.

Art of Living (2024)

In the vibrant streets of Naples, Italy, the film delves into the relationship between Tonino, a skilled
stained-glass artisan who repairs church windows, and his son, Emilio, a young and talented musician
finding his way to become independent.

This film was made in partnership with the social-cultural center Scugnizzo Liberato in Naples, Italy, and in collaboration with the CineImpact Alliance, the producers of the film. The story was developed by applying the principles of visual anthropology. I independently shot, directed, and edited the film, with feedback and support from the Cine Impact Alliance.

Captain of My Dreams (2024)

A group of young sailors navigate the Dutch inland seas on a traditional Frisian-style boat, sharing their dreams for the future and confronting the intricate relationship between personal aspirations and global sustainability.

Thanks to Sail for the Future, an organization that runs challenge-based innovation programs for young people at sea, I was able to join the crew on board and film. I independently shot, directed, and edited the film, as well as recorded the voice-over.

Inside the making of

Artistic Research

The Shape That’s Left Behind (2025) is a narrative short film, a climate fiction, that weaves together themes of grief, memory, and the emotional reality of climate change in a near future. Blending a personal journey with shifts in our natural and social worlds, the film explores how the intimate and the systemic intertwine. For me, climate change is not only a planetary crisis but also a personal one.

This film grew out of my artistic research into how grief, both personal and ecological, can
be expressed through cinematic language.

I wanted to create a story that is neither utopia nor dystopia, but something more intimate, reflecting the complexity of how we experience climate change as humans. The research behind the film draws on my own experiences of climate change and on exchanges and encounters with communities and practitioners working in fields such as climate psychology, imagination activism, civil society, and climate science.Certainly, having a professional background in the sustainability and climate change field has helped inform the artistic decisions in this film.

Green production is advancing with plant-based catering, fewer flights, and the sharing economy, but there is still room to innovate in WHAT and HOW we tell stories.

Being part of this wave of filmmakers and collaborations excites me and drives my own call to action in climate storytelling.

Ways of creating

Working in a team

I enjoy the collaborative nature of fiction and documentary filmmaking, where each project becomes a shared creative journey. My main focus lies in directing, writing, and script development. Since September 2023, I have been deepening my experience through close collaboration with professional cast and crew across all areas of filmmaking, from cinematography, editing and color grading to composition and sound design, while continuing to grow as a director and writer.

  • directing

  • writing

  • script development

  • production

Self-shot

Since 2015, I have been developing my self-shooting skills through short film projects and professional communication work. My journey began with a short course in Practical Documentary Filmmaking at University College London, where I took my first steps in learning to find a narrative, film, operate the camera, and edit independently. Over time, I have refined my ability to craft complete works on my own, with minimal reliance on specialized crew members. This approach is well suited for:

  • short documentary

  • visual anthropology

  • reportage projects

  • aftermovies
